Project Role/Skills

Account Director

As the appointed marketing and design agency for Events Hotels & Resorts, Dave Clark Design did a number of campaign and brand projects for their Hotels - QT, Rydges and Atura, as well as their Food and Beverage outlets - Reds Bar in Queenstown, New Zealand and Whiskey Lima Golf (WLG) at the Wellington, New Zealand Airport. With both restaurant projects we looked to solve several problems - create a distinct identity that reflected the quirky brand of QT, create a design system that would enable their in-house designers to quickly execute future marketing communications and campaigns, and create little details and moments that would allow customers to engage with staff and truly experience the highly customized and personal service of their staff.

For the Wellington airport restaurant, we started with the name. Inspired by flight, we used the Wellington airport abbreviation W-L-G and used the call signal ‘Whiskey Lima Golf’ for the restaurant name. The designer used inspiration from flight patterns, airport signage, symbols and phrases throughout the branded collateral. We designed stylish menus, coffee cups and to-go boxes, which served as ‘free advertising’ for customers on the go, and we designed ads for Air New Zealand Magazine, billboards and airport signage.

This restaurant was unique in that it was separate from the food court and connected to the airport hotel. It allowed for dining in, conference meetings or take away. We explored all aspects of the personal and business traveler journeys to consider how we could appeal to them and improve their experiences. Ideas included, frequent flyer coffee cards, as well as an app that would allow customers to order a takeaway dinner to pick up and take home when they arrive in Wellington.

my role

As Account Director, I was the main point of contact for the client, gathering the creative brief, working to their budget and leading the design team to create a solution that exceeded their expectations. We visited the airport restaurant construction site and reviewed the interior design plans to get a sense of the space for the new restaurant and ensure we created a brand that was cohesive with the space. We delivered the launch materials on time and within budget, as well as design system that allow their in-house design team to create future marketing materials and menu updates.
